Trattoria delle Ruote (Martina Franca, Taranto)

Trattoria delle Ruote

Puglia Mon Amour’s goal is to introduce you to the places where you can taste the authentic flavours of Puglia.
‘Trattoria delle Ruote’ represents all of this.
It is a family-run trattoria, surrounded by the countryside a few miles away from Martina Franca (Taranto) in the Itria Valley, the land of trulli.
And the Trattoria delle Ruote is set exactly inside of a group of trulli: it is there that you will enjoy a traditional Apulian menu. The few tables available and a fireplace for cooler months, will make you feel pampered and ready to live a culinary experience from the past.
Peppino Ceci is the eccentric host: he will welcome you with a smile and his Martina Franca dialect. His wife works inside the kitchen together with one of their sons, Angelo and Giovanni. They make one of the best handmade orecchiette in the region.
They use only fresh local and homemade products.
There is little choice from the menu – the same for decades – but don’t worry: you’ll want to be back just to taste the exact same courses again.
You’ll start with an appetizer consisting of homemade vegetables in oil, salami, the famous capicollo from Martina Franca and fresh cheese. Peppino and his sons may also serve you fresh mozzarella, fried homemade meatballs, mashed fava beans and fried green peppers.
Homemade orecchiette pasta with Apulian meat sauce (made with beef and pork) are a must as the first course.
Another Trattoria delle Ruote classic is the veal roulade (‘brasciola’ in Apulian dialect).
Alternatively, you can choose a plate of charcoal grilled meat.
For dessert you will be served a varieties of Apulian cookies with homemade liqueurs.
The bill is around €35 per person for a full meal, house wine included (or you can choose from a small selection of regional wine bottles).
Trattoria delle Ruote is worth every penny: it’s not a place where you go just to eat, but also to taste a piece of authentic Puglia.
One last tip. If outdoor temperature allows it, take a walk outside the restaurant: there are so many little things to discover that will make your visit to the Trattoria delle Ruote even more special.
