‘The wines of Puglia, the heel of Italy’s boot’ that took place in Toronto was a great success. Over 150 people, including wine lovers and professionals, buyers, distributors, journalists and opinion leaders, intervened on Friday, June 6 participated in the event that was a great opportunity to taste new flavours for Canadian market and public, which historically have always been interested in the Italian culture and its enology.
The event was organized by Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia (Tourism Organization of Wine from Puglia), with the contribution of Regione Puglia Assessorato alle Risorse Agroalimentari (Puglia Region’s Department of Agriculture and Food Resources). Exclusive and exquisite location for this special evening was Bata Shoe Museum (www.batashoemuseum.ca), which for decades has been dedicated to showcase shoes’ history and traditions. With this very deliberate choice, the event plays with Puglia as the heel of Italy’s Boot and wine as a cultural palatable experience.
Seven top quality cantine, wine companies, represented “brand Puglia” – Rivera, Vigne & Vini, Tenute Eméra, Duca Carlo Guarini, Carvinea, Leone De Castris, Tormaresca – in an event that is part of the celebrations for the Italian Heritage Month, meant to highlight the Italian Culture in Ontario in all its peculiar aspects.
Wine Seminar and tasting were led by Daniele Cirsone (responsible for Tourism Organization of Wine from Puglia) and Antonio Mauriello, both experts of Puglia wines and territories. Coming from Puglia, Cirsone presented his territory and viticulture, underlining the specific values of these very unique wines. Cirsone and Mauriello have been the guides for journalists, experts, buyers, professionals and opinion leaders through an unforgettable tasting of unique wines.
Sebastiano de Corato, president of Consorzio Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia said: “Canada is one of the most important markets for our companies. This is the reason why, consistent with our promotional strategies of brand Puglia abroad, we have decided to come to Toronto, where there is a strong interest for the Italian regional products and wines. It is very important to work in synergy with the institutions to help consumers to become familiar with our territory and its products. As the biggest consortium for the promotion of Puglia Region, we confirm our commitment to give prominence to the excellent accomplishments of the regional enology, to extend internationally quality and typicality to the experts in the field.”
